We take the inexpensive convenience of electric light for granted, but rarely consider its true cost. When we illumine the night, everything around is altered in both obvious and subtle ways. Moths bring birds, migrations change, and species move in unusual ways. Then, the bulb wears out, we throw it away, and start again. What if our lightbulbs got up and ran away? Could "alight" on perches? We might be less likely to take them for granted.
