About
I am a student at St. Olaf College, studying Biology and Studio Art, soon to graduate. Most of the things that I do for one or the other are connected. My interests in biology inform much of my art, and both of those spring out of my perennial sense of awe for the natural world. At an early, age, environmental issues felt important to me, especially considering my fascination with the rhythms of the landscape around. I have spent the last six summers traveling in the remote areas of northern Minnesota and Canada, thinking about conservation, cultural responsibility and ecological fragility.
So, when I think about either science or art, I find myself asking: how do our structures of thought and community allow us greater awareness and appreciation of the outdoors? And how can that awareness change our human relationships too? Both science and art require intellectual rigor, lots of heart, and a sense for the liminal space between here and everywhere.
